ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest
(ACM/ICPC)
is a grobal-scale prgramming contest for university/college
students.
This contest is hosted by
ACM (Association for
Computing Machinery) which is an international scientific and
educational organization dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences,
and applications of information technology.
ACM has 75,000 or more members, and they active in many fields
related to computing.
The ACM/ICPC provides college students with opportunities to
interact with students from other universities and to sharpen and
demonstrate their problem-solving, programming, and teamwork
skills.
In the last year (the 28th contest), 3150 teams competed in their
regional contests (including 10 Asian sites),
and 73 teams participated in
the world final contest held in
Prague, Czech republic.
The first Asian regional contest held in Japan was the 1998 Tokyo
contest (at Waseda University).
After 1998, an Asian regional contest has been held in Japan every
year : Kyoto (in 1999), Tsukuba (in 2000), Hakodate (in 2001),
Kanawaza (in 2002), and Aizu (in 2003).
This year's contest will held in Matsuyama-city, Ehime prefecture
(at Ehime University) on Nov. 21.
